Hypnotoad

Originally from Italy, now in Los Angeles, Dumbo Gets Mad is a one man psych-rock op. Their album, Elephants at the Door, dropped about three weeks ago and it is wholly enjoyable. However, I can’t quite qualify the sound. How good is your arithmetic? Solve this equation for me: Ariel Pink meets John Lennon in the 60’s, Edward Sharpe gets high with The Flaming Lips, add that to Bonobo mixing Cream’s skillful electric guitar from Disraeli Gears. Remove fidelity. Record it on a cassette tape. Melt the tape. Remove any fidelity that’s still hanging around. Toss it into a spinach salad. Feed it to Bluto. Find it later. Then play it backwards slowly. I heard that’s what happened during the recording of this song. Eclectic Prawn, from DGM,  has potential to be your favourite summer song this winter. Trippy, free, loving, nonsensical, relaxing. All the main ingredients for a wholesome summertime… in the wintertime. I’m also posting up a tune by a related artist, Gonjasufi. His style is a bit more dysfunctional, but if you like DGM, you’ll like Gonja.
